The brooch has the semi-cylindrical wings with pierced circular end plates and the moulded decoration above the wings seen in Polden Hill brooches, though it lacks the normal curve to the bow at the head, having a very straight profile. Nonetheless, the brooch appears to be a derivative of the Polden Hill type, and therefore is likely to date from the late first to second century AD.
