A damaged copper-alloy Roman gilded disc brooch. The decoration consists of a central deep cell surrounded by two ring cells within a raised border. This in turn is surrounded by an outer ring which has traces of gilding surviving, also within a raised border. There are small diagonal dashed lines in the gilded area, like ropework. The edges of the brooch are damaged and the pin is missing. The catchplate and pin mechanism are also damaged, just surviving as two raised lugs. It is 25.6mm in length, 23.9mm wide, and 4.1mm thick. A cast, copper alloy Roman brooch of the T-shaped type, probably a sawfish type dating from 70 - 150 AD. It Compare to Hattat's Visual catalogue of Ancient Brooches (Figure 163, number 31). The short bow is triangular in section and tapers from a wide shoulder to a narrow foot which is slightly raised and is divided from the rest of the bow by a shallow groove. There is a narrow ridge of metal running for a short distance down the centre of the bow, beginning near the head. There is a double disc moulding at the proximal end and a central perforation for assembly. late 3rd or 4th century AD. Copper Alloy Roman disc brooch of 2nd Century Date. The brooch has a circular central perforation measuring 3mm in diameter around which is a raised lip. On the main body of the brooch there are 5 pellets arranged in a ring around the central hole and on the edge of the brooch is another raised lip. Remains of a single longitudinal pin lug and small catch plate are visible on the back of the brooch. The brooch is flat and has a diameter of 18mm and weighs 2.03g. Copper alloy Roman zoomorphic brooch in the form of a seated greyhound. The overall form of the brooch is reminiscent of a Romano-British Dragonesque booch. The brooch is in good condition and remains intact apart from the pin on the reverse. The brooch is finely cast and the surface has been tinned to give a silver finish. They contain a copper alloy axis bar and have a slot for the hinged pin which is missing. The plain bow has a hump and is sub-circular in cross-section. It tapers to a blunt point at the foot.
