Almost complete enamelled copper alloy, flat and plain edged disc brooch of the Second Century AD. Diameter 20.5mm, thickness 1.2mm. Weight 4.00g. Two coils of a four-coil spring and the extreme end of the pin are missing. The break on the spring appears to be old and the end of the pin appears to have eroded. Decoration on the front of the brooch is in the form of a central raised disc (about 3mm in diameter) surrounded by a six-pointed star of blue enamel with concave sides. Fragment of a possible Roman first century Aesica crescent type bow brooch. Length 27mm, width 18mm and 9mm thick. Weight 15.13g. The fragment has a central moulding which tapers from the top towards the bottom. This central moulding is flanked on either side by a narrow raised rib. At one side is an almost complete flaring portion that resembles an insect wing. The matching wing on the opposite side is broken and missing. There is a break at the top of the central moulding where the spring mechanism may have been situated. All the breaks are very abraded.
