A copper alloy Roman crossbow brooch dating from about 320 - 400 AD. It is complete with the pin and catch plate still in place. The bow and the foot are about the same length as each other. The bow is decorated with V shaped moulding near the top, and a projecting flange near the bottom. The rest of the bow is trapezoidal in section. The foot a flat front face at the top and bottom, with a bevelled area between. The central area has two grooves along the central ridge. An unusual copper alloy Roman brooch of 2nd century date. A parallel is number 1589 on page 353 of Hattatt's Visual Catalogue, but it has been mis-classified as a Continental Equal-ended plate brooch.
The head is rectangular with short wings which were once tubular to hold the axis bar and hinged pin (a Polden Hill type head). The reverse part of the tubular housing is now missing. A raised bump at the top of the bow was probably once decorative. The bow is unusual in plan being lozenge shaped. A complete but bent copper alloy penannular brooch of Roman date, of Fowler Type A3, dating from AD 43 - 410. It has aplain, circular sectioned frame which expands slightly towards the terminals. The terminals are rounded knops with concave ends anda double banded moulded collar. The loop of the copper alloy pin survives. The pin appears to have been made from a flattened strip of metal. Part of a copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch, dating from AD 75 - 175. Only the lower bow of the brooch survives. The breaks are patinated. The acanthus button is on the front of the bow only. It has two tiers of three petals, with a triple collar above and below. The foot of the brooch is globular. The catchplate is incomplete. The metal has a dark grey green patina. The brooch fragment is 50.7mm long, 9.02mm wide and 12.36mm thick. 7.83g.

An incomplete, copper alloy Roman brooch of the trumpet variety, dating from AD 75 - 175. The remaining portion consists of the head and part of the bow. On the shoulder of the bow is an acanthus moulding of three petals above and below the median ridge; the moulding is on the upper side of the bow only. There is a double collar above and below the acanthus button which has three petals above and three below a central reel. The button does not continue round the back of the bow. A copper alloy Roman T-shaped brooch of initial type dating from AD 50 - 150. It has plain tubular wings with a simple circumferential groove at the far end of each. They hold a copper alloy axis bar which supports a copper alloy hinged pin of a different alloy (more turquoise in colour) which is complete. Description: Silver gilt annular brooch of medieval date in the form of an ntertwined snake. The oval frame is in the form of a snake. One half of the frame is wider. It is oval in section and the front face has small nicks and annulets covering it, presumably representing scales.

Circumstances of discovery: While searching with a metal-detector.
Description:
A medieval silver annular brooch, with a plain wire frame of circular section, the two ends now separated at the join. The pin has a collar of punched decoration.
Dimensions:
Maximum diameter: 28mm. Length of pin: 29mm.
The find therefore qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content and should go forward to inquest.

Description: Part of a Medieval probable annular brooch, of which over half of the frame survives. The pin is missing. There was probably a constriction to house the pin on the missing part of the frame. The frame looks to have been roughly oval in shape and at one side it has a projection which tapers to a point and terminates in a trefoil shaped knop. The front of the frame is inscribed with lombardic letters reading: "[...]IC'(IBI)DE'IM'E'SRE[...]". The significance of this is unclear.
The brooch probably dates from the 13th to early 14th century.

A silver and gilt brooch made from a medieval coin of Louis IX of France (AD 1226 - 1270). The coin is a Gros Tournois minted between 1266-1270, which has been gilded on the obverse face. On the reverse, there is a fixing loop and the remains of a pin. The loop and pin obscure four of the fleurs-de-lis, and the RO of TRONVS and CIV of CIVIS.
Obverse: Cross pattee in the centre surrounded by the legend in two rows. Outer row reads: '+ BNDICTV: SIT: NOmE: DHI: nRI: DEI: IhV. XPI'. Inner row reads: '+ LVDOVICVS. REX'.

A copper alloy Early Medieval domed disc brooch. The brooch has a diameter of 26.1mm and is 8.5mm thick. It has a plain border and a design in relief of a Jellinge-style animal with interlace. On the reverse the double pin lug and catchplate survive, and there is another projecting lug which is too corroded to see if it was pierced. The pin does not survive. The brooch is in very good condition and has a deep green patina with lighter areas of slight corrosion. The brooch probably dates from the later part of the Early Medieval period; 850 - 1066 AD.

A lead alloy early Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch which is broken with two large fragments surviving and other parts missing. The brooch has a rectangular head with a raised central panel. Moulded terminals project upwards and to the sides. These consist of a central zoomorphic lobe with moulded eyes and a projecting snout with a projecting scroll on each side. A fragment of a copper alloy early Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch dating from the 5th or 6th century. It is 62.8mm long, 17.7mm wide and 12.9mm thick. It weighs 18.04g.
Only the foot of the brooch survives. It has a flat panel at the top, decorated with two pairs of transverse grooves with side notches above the upper pair and bevelled edges above the lower pair. Then there is a half-round panel, also decorated with two pairs of transverse grooves, but this time placed on raised bands with a deep U-shaped groove between.

Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content for the brooch fragment of 89% with copper, lead, gold and tin also detected; it weighs 3.51 grams.
