A corroded and incomplete cast copper-alloy Colchester brooch dating to the late Iron Age to early Roman period, c. 25-65 AD. This is a one-piece example with rearward facing hook at the top of the head (L.: 6.3mm). This hook retains the external chord of the spring; at one end the spring beyond is lost, along with the pin. On the other side the spring coil is complete and curves through three loops from the point at which it emerges from the head. A corroded and incomplete cast copper-alloy Colchester one-piece brooch of Late Iron Age or early Roman date (1st century AD). At the head, the wings are plain flat rectangular pieces with rounded outer ends (18.0mm in total width). From the centre of the underside of the head projects an upper bar which is bent round on itself to meet the front of the bow creating a loop to hold the external chord; this is flat to the bow beyond the chord. A corroded and incomplete cast copper-alloy Colchester brooch dating to the late Iron Age to early Roman period, c. 25-65 AD. This one-piece brooch has an abraded rearward facing hook at the top of the head. This hook would have held the external chord of the spring; this latter, along with the pin, immediately just below the head, is now missing. Below the hook there are two flat wings which survive highly abraded (W. across wings: 7.05mm). The bow is semi-circular in cross-section with a flat lower surface. Copper alloy Nauheim derivative brooch. Four-turn bilateral spring. The bow expands out slightly at the bottom. Long, narrow foot; short, solid catchplate. The bow is decorated with a median line of almost horizontal notches of regular width along its length, flanked by similar bands of notches on either side of the lower half of the bow. Pin broken. Brooch bent at junction of bow and foot. Mid green shiny patina.

Copper-alloy bow brooch; Langton Down type. The bow, which is at right angles to the spring case, has a squared top and tapers in to the centre, before expanding out at the foot. The upper bow is decorated with three wide, shallow grooves, which terminate, before continuing on the foot. The spring is housed in a cylindrical spring-case, which is plain. The narrow pin is incomplete and bent.. The short catchplate is intact, although the edge is missing.

Short, solid catchplate intact. The bow has marginal grooves, with irregular incised circles and notches either side. Seven horizontal cuts on the foot directly below the bow. Glossy dark green patina. L: 54.5 W: 9.5 Brooches of this type mostly have a southerly distribution and are relatively common.

An incomplete copper-alloy late Iron Age to Roman Colchester brooch dating to AD25-60. The wings are short and semi-cylindrical in profile, the simple circular-sectioned bow curves slightly and tapers towards the missing foot. The spring, pin and catchplate are missing but the forward hook which would have secured the external chord is intact. The surfaces are pitted. The brooch is 45mm long and 11mm wide.

Cast copper alloy bow brooch; Aucissa type. The flat head which is broader than the bow, is rolled over upwards to hold an iron axial bar. The bow is arched to a semicircle and has a prominent median ridge. The knobbed foot is short and returned sharply from the bow. There are two transverse mouldings at the junction of the head and bow. Hinged pin; most of which is missing. L: 48 W: 1-20. The bow on this example is not as broad as is usual for this type. Similar to an example from Colchester (Crummy 1983, 10 no. 19 fig. 5)
