Copper alloy Plate Brooch. Cast rectangular plate with a central drilled aperture of diameter 3.3mm. The aperture falls in the middle of an equal armed cross with very slightly flaring arms. The design comprises sunken fields, each arm being 2.1mm wide, each with a central cabled or billeted rib 1.2mm wide standing in relief. A sunken compartment circa 4mm square is set in each angle of the cross; two opposed compartments are empty, the other pair are filled by a ground of blue enamel with a central round field of white enamel and a central round dot of red enamel. Copper alloy and iron brooch fragment. Cast trapezoid plate with a collared knop to either side of its wider end, the stub of an indeterminate feature loop above, and a flat lug on the back retaining the corroded stub of an iron pin or spring. The display face of the plate bears moulded vertical flutes converging towards its broken narrower end. Although a top loop and collared knops might usually denote a Roman brooch, the iron pin gear may suggest a later date. Copper alloy and iron brooch fragment. Cast plain straight-sided bow of thickness 2.1mm with a stop at its upper end. Above this rises a half-round knob of two graduated stages with a collar and constriction between them. Behind the base of the knob, paired U-shaped lugs retain the iron stub of a pin. The main part of the bow stands proud of lower narrow edges, and has a further rectangular panel, possibly applied, set centrally at the apex of its curve. Lead alloy possible brooch. Hollow cast model apparently representing the head and bow of an Early Roman bow brooch at 1:1 scale. The types intended might include versions of a hinged Colchester Derivative brooch (e.g. Mackreth type CD H 10.e.) with an especially wide and fluted crest to its bow. The fluted bow also recalls the Langton down brooches. An axis bar appears to protrude from the ends of a widened fluted head whose decoration is continuous with that of a bow of hollow D section. Copper alloy annular brooch. Cast narrow band annular brooch with a band which is beaded on its display side and flat on the back, retaining a cast collared pin which is looped around the frame. Rust staining of the surface is prominent on the display side though the object was tested with a magnet to confirm its non-ferrous nature. The narrow band annular brooch is a feature of later, generally late 6th to 7th-century, Early Anglo-Saxon furnished burials of adult women, though objects of much the same form enjoyed a renewed popularity in the high medieval period. Extensive rust on the back may arise from decay of the pin and may incorporate mineral preserved textile traces. The front bears the bordered relict of a curvilinear design in which a reflective spot of enamel appears. This could perhaps suggest a brooch of Weetch type 18, c.
