A cast lead alloy object, possibly a disc brooch. The piece is a flat disc. On the rear are a 2 cruched fittings, one possibly a pin hinge (or suspension loop?) at the edge, and a central lug that may have been a catchplate. Continuing along the line of these 2 there is also a circular perforation towards the far edge from the possible hinge. The front face is decorated with the inscription REX across it between 2 raised borders.

Copper alloy headstud brooch with a hinge pin (still intact). There is a broken wire headloop above the crossbar; this has been pinched in by a heavy rectangular collar. The collar has the remains of possibly white enamel around three lozenge-shaped bosses. A longitudinal crest is located immediately below the collar and above the headstud which appears as a conical perforation in the bow. Lozenge-shaped blue enamel cells run down the front of the bow, below the headstud. The foot of the brooch is now broken, as is the catchplate.

Copper alloy headstud brooch, dating to the second century. The head of the brooch shows the attachment of a hinge pin, now missing. The crossbar has three sub-rectangular cells to either side of the bow, probably for taking enamel. The bow also has sub-rectangular cells for enamel; these become gradually smaller as they approach the foot of the brooch. The last cell, approximately 25mm above the foot, is in the shape of an inverted spear-head. The foot knob is undecorated. On the reverse of the object, the catchplate is present, but incomplete.

A copper alloy disc brooch with blue and red enamel/glass decoration. The face of the object has a raised outer rim encircling a sunken field of blue enamel or glass. In this field are circle-dot motifs comprised of raised metal rims around a band of red enamel and a central raised, metal boss. At the centre of the face of the brooch is a raised rim surrounding a sunken field of which the colour is now gone. The reverse of the object has two lugs providing the hinge-pivot, both corroded, and the remains of the catchplate, also corroded.

There are twelve peripheral knobs, one at the end of each of the dividing lines and one halfway between each of these. The knobs are worn, some almost entirely. Each segment is enamelled with a circular area left plain. Two opposing segments have been decorated with a pale yellow/white enamel, whilst the remaining four are a dark blue. On the reverse the spring is extant, along with part of the pin. The catchplate has broken, and only a stub remains.

Copper alloy Headstud brooch, dating to 75-200 AD. The wings are cylindrical and hold the hinged pin. The headstud is a raised rosette with traces of red enamel in the the fluting at the sides. The stud is held in place with a pin, the two prongs of which may be seen protruding from the reverse of the object, and the head of which shows as a circular boss in the headstud. On either side of the crossbar are attached knurled bars, one of which has been turned so that it is perpendicular to the crossbar. These bars also show traces of red enamel. Roman copper alloy headstud brooch of the second century. The head hides a tubular crossbar, which incorporates a hinge pin (still intact). Though the tubular crossbar is hidden, it is decorative, having longitudinal ridges along the surface. A wire exits either side of the crossbar tube, to loop into a low lug on the head. The headstud contains a central boss of metal with a band of red enamel on the outside. The face of the crossbar, that which is angled toward the bow, is decorated with a row of three lozenges in the centre with a longitudinal silver gilt, knurled band. Betwee…

Roman copper alloy headstud brooch. The object is quite corroded, but there are traces of enamel in places. The head hides a tubular crossbar that accommodates a hinge pin (now missing). The headstud shows some traces of heavily damaged enamel in a conical hollow; this is inferred from a hole in the reverse which reflects the form of other headstuds. The bow is rectangular in section, and a trace of blue enamel shows that the decoration probably consisted of rectangular enamel cells that became smaller as they approached the foot. The remains of the foot show a lip at the base wit…
