Roman copper alloy plain hinged bow brooch, 26mm long, 22mm wide and 7mm deep. The object is in fair condition with a brown patina and weighs 2.98grams. The brooch has circular sectioned solid wings which sit above the bow at an angle and form a central rectangualr void, presumambly where the hinge fitted. The bow is triangular in section and is slightly curved. There is no sign of decoration on the brooch and no catchplate or pin present.

Roman copper alloy disc brooch, 22mm in diameter and 2mm thick (6mm at catchplate). The object is in fair condition with a green/brown patina and weighs 3.64grams. The brooch is decorated with an outer raised border with a further inner border, 2mm in from the edge. This is filled with what is now red enamel. Inside this are four raised semi-circles which are arranged so they form a cross motif, two are filled with red enamel and one with blue, the last is empty but presumably was originally blue as well. Roman bow brooch with some blue and orange enamel remaining. A derivative of a Wirral/ trumpet type bow brooch. This is an unusual variation and has some nice detail remaining. The bow is very pronounced and the body of the brooch is quite short. The main body of the brooch is complete although it has broken before the foot. Roman brooch fragment; foot of cast copper alloy (probable) fantail brooch with relief moulding and indication of a loop at the bow. Probably 2nd century, due to its size and elaborate decoration. Plate is triangular in shape with relief moulded foliate (or possibly serpent?) design, although this is unclear due to corrosion and wear on the metal. The fragment is broken off at the point of the bow of the brooch but, unusually, there is the indication of the beginnings of a small loop at that point. Roman copper alloy Polden Hill booch fragment. The crest of the head is quite rounded and the bow tapers to a point at the end, although no foot remains. The hinged pin, catchplate and pin mechanism are all missing. The brooch is quite corroded all over but it is quite likely that this brooch would have been plain anyway.

An incomplete copper-alloy plate brooch of 2nd century AD date. Oval plate brooches of this period are relatively common finds in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. A similar brooch was found within the same Parish - see BH-86AC02. The brooch is oval in plan and has a raised central cell (also oval) with a double rim around its perimeter. The cell contains remnants of a green and red glass or enamel inset. Surrounding the cell is a shallow groove, whilst the outer edge of the brooch is marked by a low rim. A fragment of a very worn plate brooch of unbomate type and 2nd century in date. A fragment of the outer edge survives and the rest is missing deut to old breaks, now worn. The fragment measures 19.48mm by 11.39mm in size. Around the edge of the front face there are triangular cells filled with decayed enamel. On the back face a double pin lug survives. Both faces have active powdery green corrosive products visible.

The fragment comprises the lower part of the bow, which narrows gently into a forward-projecting flat semi-circular foot. There is a curving triangular catchplate behind the foot. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Dragonesque brooch. This type of brooch is essentially Celtic in design but is Roman made and continued to be made until the middle of teh 2nd century AD. They are an entirely British type of brooch (Hattatt; 1982; 152). The brooch has a raised surface and a flat back. Two of the heads remain, there would have been three originally. Both the heads are broken, the hole (which represents the eye) is incomplete on both. The semi-circle central part of the brooch represents the body of the dragon and has a circular perforation.

A cast copper alloy Polden Hill brooch of early Roman date. The brooch is very small. The spring is missing, but there is iron staining within the cavity in the wings. The wings are undecorated. The surface of the bow is damaged but appears to have been decorated with four longitudinal incised lines, two probably running the length of the bow, and one on either side of the bow extending roughly half way down. The bow tapers to a point. The catchplate is missing. Dimensions: length 26.02mm, width across wings 18.06mm, width at top of bow 8.9mm and thickness 10.95mm. Weight 4.14g.
