Copper alloy Roman umbonate brooch. A circular brooch with circular knops on the outer edge. There would have been 8, now only 3 are left. The 6 smaller knops are decorated with an inner circle. At the top and bottom were two larger knops, only one of which remains. This has a central circular perforation. The pin is on a hinge and remains but the catchplate is missing. Copper alloy brooch, Colchester derivative type with Polden Hill variant spring attachment. Missing foot with catchplate, spring, pin. The spring was held by a rear hook and by enclosed wing ends, 6mm wide - these contain an iron-like corrosion, but it does not react to a magnet. The wings have a single angled groove and five grooves at the terminals, with slight notching of some of the intervening narrow ribs. The bow has a slightly convex back and rounded front, and a stront crest at the top in profile. It tapers to a smal;l foot knob. Fragment of Roman copper alloy bow brooch, consisting of the lower bow and incomplete catchplate only. The brooch is very worn and most of the original patina is missing. The fragment measures 44.9mm in length and is very straight in profile. It is 5.4mm wide at the break and 5.4mm wide at the foot. The breaks are old. The bow is roughly triangular in section, being flat to the reverse. To the front is a mid-rib, from which either side falls away. A copper alloy Roman bow brooch which is probably Dolphin type. The bow survives, but the pin, mechanism, and most of the catchplate are missing. The bow has a humped head and tapers to a point at the foot. It is decorated with two narrow grooves that run the length of the bow and flare at the head. A copper alloy Roman bow brooch fragment of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands), cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.c. pg. 72 Plate 46. Only the head of the brooch survives and the spring and pin are missing. There appears to be a central zig-zag line of decoration down the centre of the bow, but much of the patina is chipped and corroded, hiding most of the details. A cast copper alloy Roman Colchester two-piece brooch. The object consists of the head of the brooch and most of the bow. The spring mechanism, the pin and the lower part of the bow are all missing. The double head loop remains in situ, with one loop intact and one broken. The wings are decorated with incised vertical lines. The object is slightly worn, with a mid greyish-green patina. Brooches of this type date to the 1st century AD. Parallels for this brooch can be found in Hattat 2000, fig.156.

A complete copper-alloy Trumpet type brooch of 1st to 2nd century AD. The head consists of a semi-circular plate with a rounded lobe at the top. On the underside of the head the iron axis bar passes through a perforated central lug. An incomplete cast copper alloy T-shape brooch of early Roman date. The surviving portion measures 17.3mm by 15.6mm by 5.9mm and weighs 2.7g. The incomplete cylindrical wings conceal the axis bar for the missing hinged pin. The bow is initially straight, then curves downwards. On the front at the point of this change in angle there is a circular boss with a faint stamped cross-shape. The bow has broken about 5mm below this. There are two recessed vertical linears on this section. The back is slightly hollowed.

An incomplete cast copper alloy one-piece Colchester brooch of early Roman date. The surviving portion measures 61.2mm by 26.5mm by 3.4mm and weighs 7.3g. One side of the wings survives, but the spring mechanism and pin are missing. The bow narrows towards the pointed foot, which has a flat semi-circular catchplate on the reverse. There are two pairs of recessed vertical linears on the front of the brooch. Between these, at the top of the bow, there is a small slightly domed circular boss. The back is hollowed.

Roman (mid 1st to 2nd century) brooch: The lower portion of the bow remains. The bow is broken at the upper edge which is at the approximate midpoint of the bow. The break is not a recent. The bow tapers to a slightly expanded foot. On the reverse of this portion of the bow there is a complete catchplate. The surface of the brooch has an abraded patina. The brooch measures 21.13mm in length, 3.79mm in width across the upper edge and weighs 1.35g. The brooch is a Colchester derivative. It probably dates to the mid-1st to second centuries.
