An incomplete gold dog brooch of uncertain date, possibly early Post-Medieval. This three dimensional brooch seems to have been hollow or at least the body was hollow. The dog is positioned left with the head turned forwards. One ear is missing however the ear nearest the tail survives in good condition. All four legs are missing and there is a break across the chest area that is now filled with mud. The curled tail survives. No full diameter survives, however the radius measures 17.4mm which would suggest a diameter of 34.8mm if this was indeed a circular artefact. The edge is serrated, each projection having a width of c.1.6mm, some segments seem to be missing and others reduced in length or bent over suggesting partial damage to the edge. A gold brooch formed into the shape of an asymmetric heart. Such brooches were used as love tokens during this period and some surviving examples carry inscriptions of amatory intent. This brooch lacks any inscription. A 14th century, asymmetric heart brooch, richly enamelled with flowers, can be found in the British Museum (Af 2701). Medieval gold annular brooch with animal head terminals, D-shaped in section. It is cast with four animal head terminals, two grip the loop for the pin and the other two grip the falttened section where the pin rests. Each head has two collets for eyes, the settings of which are present in the two gripping the pin loop but missing in the others. The pin is intact and seperately cast. A miniature Medieval gold openwork lozenge shaped brooch dating from the 13th to 14th century. The brooch consists of a thin lozenge-shaped frame with four integrally cast and evenly spaced collets wit a moulded ridge each side. Three of the four collets contain a small green stone, possibly emerald. There is a constriction at one angle which contains the intact pin. The reverse is undecorated. Similar examples can be seen on the database - NLM-D6FC71 and DOR-F31C46. The brooch is 15.5mm long, 15.5mm wide, 2.4mm thick and weighs 0.94 grams.
