A complete Medieval gold annular brooch (1200-1400). Treasure case no. 2010 T330. The frame is circular in plan, oval (almost circular) in cross-section and has a constriction for the pin. The loop of the pin fully encloses the constriction. Between the loop and the shaft there is a collar decorated on its upper and lower surfaces with several randomly situated 'C'-shaped stamp marks. The shaft tapers from the collar towards the expanded tip which is undercut to rest neatly on the frame. This brooch is particularly small and is slightly worn. A miniature medieval brooch, formed of a wire ring with a recess for the pin articulation. The pin is intact, though slightly bent, and tapers towards its pointed end. The attachment loop is ribbed with four grooves and it has a collar decorated with three rows of circular punches. The brooch is gold, and dates from the thirteenth or early fourteenth century. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. J P Robinson

Treasure item: 2011 T606; item subsequently disclaimed and returned to finder. Specialist report: A medieval gold brooch of quatrefoil shape ornamented with four settings for stones. Three of the stones survive and appear green in colour (probably glass). Each collett is supported by a collar of stamped decoration. The frame of the brooch has been bent slightly out of shape. A gold hexagonal brooch dating to the thirteenth century (Treasure reference number 2011 T623). The frame is hexagonal in plan and triangular in cross-section. The base is undecorated but the interior face is decorated with beading. A very finely worked gold brooch of hollow construction, the brooch takes the form of a six-petalled flower. The obverse is engraved with a black letter inscription which reads 'EN BONE TEMPS' ('in good time'). Very fine medieval gold annular brooch dating from the 15th century. The brooch is hollow cast and is hemispherical in section. Part of the frame is made up of a pair of very finely cast three-dimensional clasped hands, the right hand faces the front and is positioned over the left. There is a raised band immediately below the knuckles suggesting the end of a sleeve. The left hand, facing the back of the brooch, has the same band but is less pronounced probably due to wear. TREASURE CASE 2005 T126 A medieval gold annular brooch, of lozenge-shaped section. A medieval brooch formed in a ring with two collets measuring about 9mm high; one is set with a garnet and the other with a sapphire. From these collets springs a foliate tendril which creates an openwork appearance, being attached to the main body of the brooch at the loop and point of the pin. A gold brooch formed into the shape of an asymmetric heart. Such brooches were used as love tokens during this period and some surviving examples carry inscriptions of amatory intent. This brooch lacks any inscription. A 14th century, asymmetric heart brooch, richly enamelled with flowers, can be found in the British Museum (Af 2701).
