An incomplete cast copper alloy Trumpet derivative brooch. The bow head is a small oval in plan. The head forms a collar to the bow rather than a full-sized head. The reverse of head has a vertical lug with a circular central perforation. Through the perforation a fragment of the axis bar remains, with some of the spring still coiled around it. The bow is sub-rectangular in section, with rounded edges. The lower portion of the bow gently tapers to a blunt edge which was probably broken. The object is a Colchester Two-Piece Brooch. Further classification is not certain as the wing terminals have been damaged. It probably dates to the late 1st to mid 2nd century AD. The wings of the brooch are semi-cylindrical. Only a fragment of one wing remains, whereas the other is almost complete. This wing has a small portion of patina on the terminal perhaps suggesting originally it did not have wing caps. The other wing, however also has traces of patina on the terminal, but is obviously incomplete; therefore it may have been damaged in antiquity. The wings are decorated w…
