Roman (mid 1st to 2nd century) brooch: The lower portion of the bow remains. The bow is broken at the upper edge which is at the approximate midpoint of the bow. The break is not a recent. The bow tapers to a slightly expanded foot.
On the reverse of this portion of the bow there is a complete catchplate.
The surface of the brooch has an abraded patina.
The brooch measures 21.13mm in length, 3.79mm in width across the upper edge and weighs 1.35g.
The brooch is a Colchester derivative. It probably dates to the mid-1st to second centuries.

Fragment of a Romano-British brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type (Mackreth Group 8, flat wing ends, southern England), cf. Mackreth 2011, 8. Plate 53. Flattened bow with a groove down each side. On the bow is a raised lentoid pellet connected to the spring fitting by a low, broad rib and cuts in the middle part of each side of the bow. Plain wings, hollowed beneath to hold the coiled spring. This type is strongly represented in Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.

A cast copper alloy Roman brooch, a Colchester derivative which is probably a T-shaped type. The brooch is incomplete. The wings are cylindircal, but are incomplete at the terminals and across the cylindier. Through the break of the cylinder the spring is visible, with seven coils. The pin is missing and is visible through a central slot in the wings. The bow head is slightly off-set and is initally quite broad before quickly tapering to form the bow. The object is a cast copper probable brooch fragment. The brooch has a flat, possibly circular disc. The outer edge is curved implying it may be circular. The interior edge is either a broken edge, or the brooch had areas of openwork, it is not clear. It has a ridged border on the exterior and interior edge. Both terminals are the object are also broken, and look quite recent. The underside of the fragment is flat, except for two semi-circular parallel lugs. The lugs both have a central hole. The object was recorded at the Hidden Treasures Roadshow at Worcester.
The brooch is intact except for the pin, which is completely missing. The brooch has a well developed olive green patina, which has little wear and is in very good condition. Only the suspension loop shows signs of wear. The loop is decorated with incised line decoration. The bow head is flat and small. The reverse of the bow head has traces of an iron pin or hinge. An incomplete copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative brooch. It is a Polden Hil type due to it having the axis bar held at each end with pierced circular plates at the outer end of each wing and a rearward facing hook to secure the chord.
The pin, foot, and catch plate are missing. The head, wings, most of the bow, and most of the spring have survived.
The head is 12.75mm thick and 15.81mm wide, including the wing bars. It is 10.09mm long, including the rearward facing hook.
