A penny of Eadgar, AD959-975 (EMC 2014.0296); parts of the circumference are missing in two areas. The obverse has been gilded. The edge of a small circular hole survives in the edges of one of the breaks which, together with the gilding, suggests that the coin was converted into a brooch, the hole being one of two used to attach a pin. The coin is of a previously unrecorded type. In view of the missing portions the best guess is that the obverse would originally have read EA / DG / AR / REX (in a design reminiscent of the Luda penny of Alfred); it would fit in with other revival…

'A fragment from a medieval brooch. The flat surface (reverse) is inscribed with: + A + This most probably comprises part of a full inscription which would have read A G L A and would have been arranged at equal distances around the frame of the brooch. The full inscription signifies Atha Gebri Lielan Adonai ('thou art mighty forever, O Lord) and was a popular charm against fever in the medieval period. The brooch fragment is silver-gilt and dates from the thirteenth century.' James Robinson, Dept of Prehistory and Europe, British Museum

A Medieval brooch with a circular frame decorated with four bosses and one lozenge. The bosses were originally stamped with circular punches which have lost their detail. The lozenge has an arrangement of circular stamps resembling a flower. A corresponding lozenge, which would have been positioned on the other side of the frame, is now lost. The pin is held in place by a recess cut into the frame and is decorated with a spherical collar stamped in the same way as the bosses. The brooch is silver gilt and dates from the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century.

A medieval silver-gilt annular brooch, the ring decorated with a raised filigree design. The back of the brooch is formed from a separate flat section, which is complete, into which the front was originally set. The front and the back have now become separated and are held together by part of the thin wire frame, which is threaded through the pin. About a third of the filigree frame is missing and the gilding is worn. See also TAR 2004 No. 143 (2004 T137) and TAR 2008 No. 263 (2008 T588). The brooch dates from the 13th - 14th century.

An incomplete Medieval gilt silver annular brooch dating from AD 1200 - 1350. A portion of the frame remains, with three elaborate applied quatrefoil mounts, 12.5mm in width, soldered to the frame. Half of the frame is square sectioned, 1.5mm thick and undecorated. The other half is twisted, gilded and with incised zig-zag patterning along each facetted side.
