The upper part of a Roman Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, Eastern Group) bow brooch. The spring, pin and lower part of the bow and catchplate are missing. The spine of the brooch is decorated with a ladder-like engraving. On the surviving side wing is a pair of transverse grooves.

A cast copper alloy Kraftig Profilierte brooch of early Roman date. The brooch is complete and in good condition. It comprises a trumpet-like keeled upper part and a wide knop on the bow below this. The lower part of the bow is offset from the upper and is also keeled. The catchplate is plain and the rounded foot knop is out-turned.

A well-preserved cast copper-alloy early plate brooch of wheel-shaped type with the pin missing. The circular frame is recessed and has a raised rim. Centrally there are four central spokes, a central recessed raised boss, and a small projecting central knob. The brooch of late first to early 2nd century AD.

A cast copper alloy and enamelled Roman zoomorphic brooch in the form of a duck. The pin is missing. On the back of the duck are four elongated cells for missing enamel. The brooch has a slender rounded neck and a long sweeping curved bill. Projecting from the tail is a loop, presumably for attachment to a chain. The brooch is probably of 2nd century date.

A late Roman cast copper alloy P-shaped brooch with a separate iron bar on which are attached a copper alloy spring and a pair of copper alloy terminals. The brooch has a flat tapering bow which has been extensively decorated with punched lines and circles. Similar decoration extends onto the catchplate which is bent upwards, and then the tapering tail of the catchplate has been secured by winding it around the base of the bow. A Roman enamelled zoomorphic brooch in the form of a stag running to the right. the lower parts of both visible legs are missing. A large Roman brooch of P-shaped type, also referred to as a sheath-footed brooch (Hull's Group 11). The brooch is well-preserved although some areas of the surface are missing. The white metal coating is thick and extensively preserved. The pin is missing but the iron chord and spring survive. A notched rib runs along the head and a pair of ribs with notching between runs down the spine.

A distorted copper alloy Roman Hod Hill brooch dating to cAD 43-75. The catchplate is worn and part of the pin is missing. The catchplate is pierced with a circular hole. There are rounded transverse mouldings on the upper and lower parts of the bow and between them a strip of worn decoration which runs along the spine. The brooch has a projecting foot. The original length of the brooch was c 55mm.

A cast copper alloy Roman plate brooch probably dating to the 2nd century. Centrally is a rounded square extending from two corners of which are rounded projections both containing blue enamel. There may have been four projections originally. Centrally is a projecting oval which has been engraved into the form of a human face. The head has no clear eyes but these may have been shown iin a surface coating such as silver. Most of the hinged pin is missing. A very small number of similar brooches have been recorded on the PAS database (eg SOM-F6B841; SUR-8905CD, WILT-4BF5B6; WILT-1617A7).

A copper alloy Roman brooch, Maxey bow and fantail type dating to AD 50-150 with a tinned surface. Complete with catchplate and spring but missing pin. The wings are semi-cylindrical and undecorated and a double pierced lug holds the axis bar and spring cord. The bow has three parallel ridges along the spine. The foot flares out to 10.8mm wide, has a moulded linear border surrounding an inner border of dot decoration and joins the bow at a moulded transverse ridge. As Hattatt (2000), p314. Very similar examples on the database include SF-CB0147.

A fragment of a copper alloy Roman Polden Hill brooch, probably of Mackreth 2011, Chapter 3, Part 3, CD PH 7.a. The fragment comprises the head and arms with a portion of the fluted bow, which is decorated with a deep medial groove along the spine. The arms retain pierced caps at the end to hold the axial bar and a stump for a chord hook remains at the front of the head. The spring, pin, foot and catchplate are missing. Circa late 1st-late 3rd century AD.
