Medieval copper alloy English jetton of Edward I, Class 4 (1282-88) (Mitchiner no 87), reused as a brooch or hooked tag.
The jetton is English, of Edward I (1272 - 1307). The obverse depicts a crowned bust facing forward, and the reverse depicts a single stranded cross fleury with expanded ends, and within each quarter is a star or crescent.
A lozenge shaped pin plate of copper alloy has been riveted to the centre of the obverse of the jetton covering the face of Edward I, allowing the jetton to be used as a hooked tag. One end of the plate is pointed and the other is curled ove…
