Possible copper alloy plate from a brooch of uncertain type, possibly Roman The object comprises a fragmentary and distorted circular disc of sheet metal (with a maximum distorted diameter of 34.2mm, a thickness of 0.1mm and a weight of 2.4g). The rear has what appears to be an integral catch-plate adjacent to the edge (with a depth of 7.8mm and a length of 6.2mm). The missing pin was hinged within a rolled head, comprising the bow simply turned internally with a slot to accommodate the pin. A worn and incomplete Roman cast disc brooch of 2nd-century date. This flat brooch has an annular body with circular open centre (Dia.: 6.2mm). At the compass points are four protrusions which have suffered differing levels of abrasion. On the lower surface on the two opposing and more complete protrusions are, respectively, the remnant of the catchplate and the perforated, semi-circular pin lug. Within the latter are the corroded remains of the axis bar and possibly the beginnings of an iron pin, the rest of which is now missing. The more complete protrusions are divided from the m…

A 2nd century cast copper alloy disc brooch. The brooch is flat and circular. The surface has largely been lost due to wear and corrosion. The front of the brooch has been decorated with a ring and dot in the centre with lines radiating out from the centre. These fields then appear to have been inlaid with enamel, must of the enamel has now been lost. On the reverse of the brooch are the remains of two widely spaced lugs, they survive as stumps of corroded metal on either edge of the disc. The brooch is a dark brownish-green colour. It is pitted and corroded. This type of brooch dat…

It measures an incomplete 26mm in length and weighs 4.29g. It would have originally measured c.33mm in length. The surviving upper projection has a single pierced lug to the reverse for a spring attachment. One other has been recorded from Wiltshire…
