Silver penny of Edward I which has been gilded and made into a brooch. A Class 1c penny of 1279. The reverse is gilded and the obverse has a hook piece soldered to it (following the line if the long cross on the reverse). The hook is made from a trapezoidal sectioned strip of silver. At one end it is bent over to form a loop (possibly for attachment) and at the other it is bent backwards to form a hook. The end of the hook tapers slightly before a break at the end.
