A very worn and corroded copper-alloy object, possibly a Colchester type brooch of Roman date. It has a cylindrical body, tapering at one end (top?) to a curving and pointed hook, probably missing its tip due to old breaks. At the opposite end the body tapers, bends outwards to an angle of 90 degrees before eventually narrowing to a pointed tip. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman or early plate brooch dating to c. AD 43-1065. The brooch is circular in shape with a flat section, it is almost complete apart from the pin which has broken part way down. The upper surface of the brooch is too eroded and concreted to be able to identify any diagnostic decoration. Diameter: 24.05mm, thickness: 2.17mm, thickness (inc. pin and catch plate): 9.16mm, weight: 5.71g.

An incomplete copper-alloy Roman rear hook Colchester derivative brooch. The head is incomplete, only part of one wing surviving. This surviving section is decorated with a wide transverse flute. The reverse of the head is concave and the remains of a rear-facing hook projects from the centre of its upper edge. A fragment of a very worn plate brooch of unbomate type and 2nd century in date. A fragment of the outer edge survives and the rest is missing deut to old breaks, now worn. The fragment measures 19.48mm by 11.39mm in size. Around the edge of the front face there are triangular cells filled with decayed enamel. On the back face a double pin lug survives. Both faces have active powdery green corrosive products visible.

The lower bow and foot of a copper-alloy Roman, 3rd century AD crossbow brooch, most similar to Hattatt no 101. Measuring 44.14mm in surviving length and 4.57mm in width. The bow is roughly D-shaped in section with a flat inner face and central longitudinal ridge. At its base there is a transverse moulded semi-circular projection and below this a less pronounced bulge. The foot is U-shaped in section and tapers to a rounded point, the back face is hollow to accmodate the pin, and the catchplate is now fragmentary due to old breaks. The brooch has a white metal coating.

A copper alloy Roman bow brooch fragment, Langton Down type. It has a cylindrical spring cover, partly un-curled in the centre and exposing four coils of the spring within. Both ends of the spring case are incomplete. The case is decorated on the front with double incised lines along the top. The bow is flat-backed, and the front is decorated with reeding, consisting of several ribs with central grooves. The catchplate is missing, as is the pin. Copper alloy brooch, Trumpet type with enamelled wings giving a fly shape. Missing pin; damaged catchplate, corroded surfaces and margin. The pin was sprung between two pierced lugs on the edges of the head which is hollowed, the copper-alloy spring survives and has five coils. The wings contain blue enamel. The footknob appears to be a plain sphere rather than lobed to form an insect head but is corroded. Length 37.12mm, width (wingtips) 17.38mm. As Hattatt (1989) no.459, also similar to another example from Charsfield, Suffolk (see SF-1A7FF8).

A fragment of a copper-alloy probale Roman plate brooch, a rectangular foot, with the catchplate on its backface survives, with a fragment of a circular knob at its terminal end. The upper end has three incomplete projections, which appear to be the lower edges of an open work plate. It measures 22.27mm in surviving length and 4.06mm across the foot and 13.43mm in width across the plate area.

A copper-alloy fragment of a probable penannular brooch, one terminal and part of the ring now survives, the rest is missing due to an old break. The ring is flat and there are slight traces of possible incised decoration on the upper face, the surviving terminal is coiled and twisted so it is at right angles to the plane of the ring. It is similar to example from Colchester which are classified as Flowers type C (Crummy 1983, 18, fig 16). The fragment measures 26.68mm in length and the ring is 3.10mm in width, if complete tthis ring wuld have an external diameter of c4cm.

An incomplete Roman plate brooch, of mid to late 1st century date (see Hattatt, 1989, fig 201, nos 1558 and 1008). The brooch is flat and has a recessed circular centre with concentric circles within it and a hole through its centre. Around the edge of the central circle there are incomplete projections, they have a white metal coating and a border of tiny circular indentations, fragmentary remains of five projections survive, one has the double lug on its back face and a fragment of a copper-alloy pin is held in this. This brooch measures 21.92mm in surviving diameter.

A very unusual copper-alloy Roman bow brooch for which no parallel could be found. It appears most likely to be a variation on the hod hill and aucissa types. The brooch is complete apart from missing its pin. It measures 47.59mm in length and 26.54mm at its widest point. The wings, body and tail are all missing due to old breask, as is the pin. The bird has a slender worn head, the beak of which is also missing, The wings are flat and held out from the body, which is only slightly convex on its upper face. The underside of the bird is flat and there is the remains of a catch plate beneath the breast. It measures 13.64mm in length and 15.44mm in width.
