The brooch has short semi-cylindrical wings separated by a rear facing double pierced lug that holds in place the axis bar and spring of 8 coils. Roman (2nd century) incomplete cast copper alloy plate brooch. It is circular in plan, with a small central perforation, incised circle and incomplete radial lugs. Part of the edge is damaged and missing. The reverse has a double lug for the missing hinged pin. There is no surviving evidence of a catchplate. It has a dark green patina, however much of the original surface is missing. The brooch has a diameter of 16.32mm, is 1.12mm thick increasing to 10.85mm thick at the hinge lugs. Weight 1.23 grams.

The bow is D-shaped, with a central rib flattening off toward the foot, which is incomplete due to old breaks. The wings are short and semi-circular with single rib decoration at the shoulders. An incomplete copper alloy Roman plate brooch of second century date. It is a circular disc brooch, but about half is missing due to old breaks. The upper surface has paired bronze dividers crossing at right angles and forming arms of a cross with a central circular cell. Within the arms, and in the surrounding field, are traces of reddish-brown enamel. On the reverse, part of the catchplate or pin loop remains close to one edge. The opposite side is missing. The brooch measures 23.17mm in diameter, 1.19mm in thickness, and weighs 2.19g.

Approximately one quarter of the edge of the brooch, including the catchplate, survives intact, the remainder missing due to old breaks. A copper alloy Roman bow brooch foot fragment. The bow is straight and D-sectioned with a raised rib running longitudinally down the centre, and the rest of the brooch is missing due to old breaks. The rib is decorated with two, fine incised lines. Traces of the catchplate remain on the reverse of the bow foot. The fragment measures 37.92mm in surviving length, 5.63mm in width, 4.1mm in thickness and weighs 3.47g. It may be part of a Colchester derivative brooch, the hinged types generally having a central rib on a D-sectioned bow. (see Hatcheston, fig. 64, nos 118, 120)

The wings are folded round to form a cylinder, on one side of the bow only, the other side is missing. There is moulding on the upper bow and incised lines running transversely around the wings. The bow is D-shaped. The brooch measures 31.75mm in surviving width across the wings, 25.14mm in surviving length, and weighs 6.46g.

The bow is plain and 2.7mm in width, with the triangular-shaped catchplate forming a frame for a large triangular perforation at its centre. There is a strong groove on the inside of the catchplate to accommodate the pin when the brooch was closed. It is likely to be part of a Colchester derivative type brooch. The fragment measures 16.12mm in surviving width, 26.19mm in surviving length, and weighs 2.08g.

The metalwork is worn and there is active corrosion product. The wing is cylindrical and the bow is rounded in section, the surfaces being too worn to ascertain the true dhape and thickness. The fragment measures 12.88mm in surviving width, 28.61mm in surviving length, and weighs 6.74g.
