A complete iron Roman brooch of P-shaped type. At the head of the brooch is a separately cast iron axis bar, which has globular terminals and is held in place by the flattened head of the bow being folded around the axis bar. A separately iron spring chord and spring of at least four coils are coiled around the axis bar. To one side of the spring coils is a separate iron pin that is cylindrical in form, perhaps missing its tip due to old breaks, and coiled around the axis bar. A small annular brooch of probable 13th to 15th C. AD date* (see notes). The brooch appears to be made of iron, although this may be the result of staining from the pin. It measures 14.4mm in external diameter and is circular in section (diameter 1.9mm). The pin is made of an iron wire, measuring 15.3mm long by 1.1mm diameter. It has been attached by winding it once around the frame. The object weighs 0.99g and is badly corroded.
