A Roman Initial T-shaped brooch made of cast copper alloy. The brooch is a T-shaped type, which probably dates to the late 1st century (Bayley and Butcher, 2004 Roman Brooches in Britain: A technological and Typological Study Based on the Richborough Collection Society of Antiquaries p. 159)The wings are semi-cylindrical and formed by the upper and lower edges being folded over creating a horizontal join at the reverse of the wings. Roman (c. 40- c. 65) Colchester derivative type brooch: The wings are semi-cylindrical with no wing caps, and in the centre of the reverse there is an lug which is prolonged over the top of the bow to form a crest. The lug has two circular perforations; one to hold the chord and the other the chain. The chord, chain, spring and pin are all missing. The wings are undecorated. Roman (2nd to mid 3rd centuries) umbonate brooch: The copper alloy brooch is circular in plan with eight small knops around the edge. The body of the brooch is domed in profile and decorated with a pellet at the apex within a low-relief annulet. Late Iron Age to Roman (AD c. 25 to 55) Birdlip type brooch: The brooch made from copper alloy. The head, in plan from the reverse, is a sub-oval, which on the outer face tapers to form the bow. This portion of the bow is decorated with a central triangular ridge with flared arch either side. This moulding terminates with a pair of two horizontal fine ridges with a more prominent slightly bulbous ridge in between.
