A copper alloy brooch in two pieces found separately. The break is at the centre of the bow and the lower part is also bent in the middle part at this point. Both parts are corroded and damaged in places but retain traces of gilding on the front. The pin was held on a single pierced lug, now obscured by concretion which perhaps suggests an iron spring and pin. The top is a small flat-backed knob with basal rib. Below this the bow broadens with a flat centre and an openwork hole on each side in front of the spring lug. The main bow is strongly arched. A thickened central band consists o…

An incomplete Roman copper alloy plate brooch in the form of a rabbit with young. Only the bottom half of the brooch survives, the remainder including the extremities of the rabbit now missing due to old breaks. The front face of the brooch is slightly convex and decorated with two small cells in the shape of rabbits facing each other, possibly to represent offspring or young. These are separated by an incised six pointed star and would have once been enamelled, however no trace of the enamel survives. On the back face of the brooch is a small, corroded lug that would presumably have …

A copper alloy fragment, probably from the bow of a Roman brooch of Aucissa or Hod Hill type and of first century AD date. A small, flat rectangular section of the bow is preserved, measuring 20.12mm in length and 11.49mm in width. At the top of the fragment is a very rouugh old break that gives the impression that the object was shredded or dragged/scraped by something else. The bow beneath the break is quite thin, measuring 0.76mm in thickness, but curves upwards and thickens to 1.85mm. On the exterior surface aproximately 8mm below this point are the tops of at least one, and probab…
