Romano-British enamelled trumpet brooch, complete apart from most of catchplate flap (recent damage). Six-coiled spring and axis bar / chain loop held by lug which is integral to head and rises to an upstanding tab. A collar is folded around the waist of the chain-loop and the tab. The centrally divided bow is decorated with four triangular cells filled with yellow enamel, in two base-to-base pairs, and with two addorsed blue-filled C-shaped blue-filled cells. Romano-British lozengiform enamelled copper alloy plate brooch. Pin, most of lug with pin lug and all of lug with catchplate missing. Of two round side lugs one retains very dark enamel. Square field, empty of enamel, in centre of plate surrounded by four triangular fields, three of which contain orange enamel. The lug in front of the pin lug is offset (cf. Hattatt no. 579). Length >23mm. Width 29mm. 2nd century.

The bow, D-sectioned at the top and round sectioned lower down, has lateral grooves and two median grooves that merge as the section alters. Wingspan 25mm. c.55 - c.80 AD.

Romano-British Langton Down brooch, spring, pin and lower bow missing. Two pairs of grooves on bow. The surfaces, most of which are very rough, are tinned. The wings are molten, and a large and shapeless piece of copper alloy with high tin content is attached to the underside of the spring housing. These modifications are accidental, possibly during manufacture, rather than the result of an attempt at repair. Present wingspan 31mm. Mid 1st century.
