There are six circles evenly spaced around the brooch, each joined by a inwardly curved line. The field outside of the line is filled with dark brown enamel, as are the cells within the circles. The field inside the curved line is filled with red enamel. In the centre of the brooch is a circle containing an unknown colour enamel. There are two lugs and a catchplate on the reverse. Enamelled copper alloy brooch in the form of an axe. The axe has a wide angled blade that narrows to the centre and flares again at the butt end. The upper perimeter is straight whereas the lower one is concave. There is a small integral loop at the top of the shaft. Both the axe and the shaft are recessed and decorated with blue enamel. A bow of rounded section tapers towards the stub of a catch-plate. It is not clear whether the wings conceal a fine spring, or whether a hinged pin protruded from a slot in the underside of the wings. The bow is bent sharply above catch-plate and the brooch abraded overall. Suggested date: Early Roman, 40-80. A copper alloy incomplete Roman bow and fantail brooch. The object is 31.2mm long, 16.3mm wide and 4.1mm thick. Only the lower half of the bow survives consisting of a central roundel above which is an ancient break, and the flaring fantail. The catchplate partially survives. The roundel has a raised outer ring and a concave centre, in the middle of which is a raised pimple. The brooch has a deep green patina. Similar brooches can be seen in Richard Hattatt's "Visual catalogue of Ancient Brooches" (2000) and are dated to the first or second century.

Fantail, bow brooch of the Roman period. Copper alloy. The head consists of a small tubular crossbar in which the pin is hinged. Aboce the brooch is a loop to hold a chain. The bow is narrow with two vertical grooves running down in decoration. Below this the brooch flares to a flat traingular foot. This bears a motif of double trumpet or bud shape, the lines of decoration neeting forming a diamond pattern at the top of the foot. The decoration is silvered. The catchplate lies behind the centre of the flared foot.

It was probably a trumpet brooch, but it is damaged, possibly by fire causing melting, and the type of brooch is no longer clear. Incomplete cast copper alloy Trumpet brooch. The brooch has a convex oval head with a spring behind it. The spring has six turns to it and is held in place by a small integral loop in the centre of the reverse. There is an incomplete suspension loop above. The bow is comma shaped in plan and incomplete. The upper bow is triangular in cross-section and below is a moulded acanthus reel. The lower bow is also triangular in cross-section and has a groove along the perimeter. The catchplate on the reverse is incomplete. The pin is missing.

Incomplete copper alloy two-piece Colchester derivative (Dolphin) bow brooch of Roman date (43-150AD). The wings are semi-cylindrical with perforated wing / end caps. The wing caps are incomplete and the axis bar and spring are lost. The spring would have been formed from a length of copper alloy wire which would have attached by an external chord to a rearward facing hook. Incomplete cast copper alloy one piece Colchester brooch of late Iron Age to Early Roman date (1-75 AD). The head of the brooch is relatively small and two small stumpy wings extend from either edge. The wings are short and solid with a semi-cylindrical cross section. The spring is formed from a coiled length of copper alloy wire which has been integrally cast with the body of the brooch. Enamelled copper alloy disc brooch. The brooch is circular and has a single pin lug and catchplate on the reverse. The face is decorated with a six pointed star; each point of the star terminates with a pellet, and each joining arm is curved. There is a pellet in the centre. The fields inside and outside the star contain red enamel. The copper alloy surface has been tinned or silvered.
