Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch, lead. Incomplete lead object which may have formed part of lead cruciform brooch. The object is flat and in the form of a face with scroll-like hair or moustache, depending on which way round the face is viewed. The eyes are large pellets, beneath which is a triangular shaped snout or forehead. The edges of the object is very worn and so it is hard to determine where it is broken. Fragment of an Anglo-Saxon lead disc brooch. Less than half survives. The drawing shows decoration of three rings of small pellets, around a concentric ridge, then a gap between these borders and the central motif. The central motif starts with a further ring of small pellets, around a cross motif made up of two strands of smaller, more closely spaced pellets. One arm of the cross survives and there appears to be infill between the arms of more pellets including perhaps a single larger one in the centre of the best-surviving quarter.

This fragment has a surviving length of 29.8mm and a maximum width of 11.3mm. It bears all of the decorative elements seen on cruciform brooches; a groove down the back of the bow, faceting and incised lines, the latter cut with a sharp instrument. It is likely, but not certain, that the brooch was shaped by casting before the decoration was added. On the underside of the bow is a narrow groove and a projection which probably represents the catch-plate. As both the foot and the head of the brooch are missing it is impossible to assign it to any group.
