Roman copper alloy bow brooch of Dolphin type and of 1st century AD date The brooch is incomplete, missing the spring and catch-plate (with a length of 67.4mm, a depth of 21.1mm and a weight of 17.1g). The missing spring was secured by a 'dolphin' type arrangement with a hook at the rear of the head to tension the chord. The wings are eroded (and have a surviving width of 8.5mm). Traces of iron corrosion staining on the interior of the head, may suggest that an iron spring was employed. An incomplete copper-alloy T-shaped brooch dating to the early Roman period. The wings are cylindrical in cross-section and decorated with reel mouldings at either end (one end is incomplete). The mouldings consist of a wide groove between narrow grooves, then outside this is a ridge. The bow is curved or comma-shaped in profile, D-shaped in cross-section and roughly triangular in plan as it tapers to the foot. The bow has a moulded rib running down the centre. The foot is missing, as is the pin.

An incomplete zoomorphic brooch in the form of a horse. Only the neck and foreleg of the horse survives, and it is unclear whether this brooch also depicted a rider. The horse is depicted galloping right. A row of narrow grooves illustrate the mane. The surviving portion has two recessed cells containing traces of blue and red enamel; there is a crescent-shaped field of blue enamel emphasising the horse's breast and a long field of red enamel, now incomplete, along its belly. Part of the foreleg survives, but the hoof is missing.

Very corroded bow brooch. The wings are curved in cross-section and open at the rear for a spring mechanism. No details of the spring fixing can be seen (such as a double-pierced lug or a rear-facing hook). The bow is now bent and corroded and no decoration can be seen. A fragment of a cast, copper-alloy, Roman plate brooch of the umbonate type, dating from AD100-250. There is a central, slightly domed roundel surrounded by a circle of triangular cells, some of which contain traces of blue enamel. Only six of these triangles remain on the fragment. This ring of enamelled cells is separated from the outward-flaring rim of the brooch by a broad, shallow groove. A small fragment of the pin mount remains on the reverse of the rim. Similar brooches are illustrated in Hattat, Visual Catalogue, figure 209.

The brooch is made in one piece, with the top of the bow narrowing and curling back on itself several times to form an internal chord. There are three coils remaining. A cast, copper alloy, Roman hinged dolphin brooch, dating from c75 - 100 AD. Its wings are cylindrical and contain a bar for the hinged pin, which is still operative. However, the brooch is incomplete, in that the tip of the pin and the catch plate are missing. A near complete cast copper alloy bow and fantail brooch. The brooch has rectangular wings with a circular casing behind it containing an axis bar. The pin is missing. There is an incomplete suspension loop at the top. The bow is short, with a damaged, bent arch leading into a flat triangular fantail which is decorated with a triskele motif in reserve metal set against a background which would have contained enamel. Copper alloy incomplete Roman Colchester derivative, hinged brooch, dating from 55-100 AD. There are two cylindrical wings, both with broken ends, the left one shorter. The bow is D-shaped, with incised lines, tapering down to a broken end with the pin and catch plate missing.

An incomplete, copper-alloy, Roman T-shaped brooch circa AD 43 to AD 150. The brooch consists of cylindrical wings, a straight bow, and a catch plate. At the top of the brooch there are the remains of a head-loop which projects 7mm from the centre. The cylindrical wings are 5mm diameter and a total of 25mm in length. On the reverse of the wings there is a worn central bar which runs down the back of the wings towards a flattened edge. The wings and the bow are undecorated. An incomplete, copper alloy Roman Aesica brooch dating to c. AD 40-80. The brooch has rectangular wings with a circular casing behind it containing an axis bar. A complete copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative, hinged brooch complete with pin, circa AD 55 to AD 100. The top of the brooch consists of two cylindrical wings 4mm in diameter. The wings are smooth with no decoration. On the reverse of the wings in the centre is a notch where the hinge of the pin sits. The hinge pin extends below the notch towards the reverse of the bow. The pin extends down to meet the catch plate but sits just outside it.
