A copper alloy Roman fibular brooch which is 35.4mm long, 21.1mm wide and 15.3mm thick. The brooch has a simple tapering bow which appears not to be decorated though it is chipped in places. The wings are short and seem to be little more than projecting rounded knops. There is a thick headloop, the majority of which is missing, and a band of square beading across its base. Behind the wings is the tubular housing for the pin which appears to have been hinged, though is now badly corroded. Traces of the catchplate survive, but not the pin. This brooch does not easily fit into the broad …

The roundel has a raised outer ring and a concave centre, in the middle of which is a raised pimple. The brooch has a deep green patina. Similar brooches can be seen in Richard Hattatt's "Visual catalogue of Ancient Brooches" (2000) and are dated to the first or second century.

A copper alloy Roman bow brooch. The brooch is 35.3mm long, 11.7mm wide and 20.3mm deep. It was probably a trumpet brooch, but it is damaged, possibly by fire causing melting, and the type of brooch is no longer clear. The pin and mechanism are missing but traces of the catchplate survive. The foot is tilted forwards. There are bumps in the middle of the bow which may be the remains of an acanthus button. The probably mouth of the trumpet is deeply pitted and distorted. Traces of a red material survive, particularly near the foot and on the side of the bow. It is not clear whether thi…

A circular, copper-alloy disc brooch, c. 100 - 200AD. The face of the brooch is decorated with a central circle surrounded by a six-pointed star constructed from concave tressures joined at their ends with additional discs identical in size to that in the centre of the brooch. Traces of red enamel remain within the star. There are also traces of enamel of a different colour in two of the tressures. This has developed a surface glaze, but chemical action in the soil has rendered the original colour unrecognizable. The catch plate remains on the back of the brooch, but the pin is missin…

A copper alloy fibula brooch dating from the Roman period. The pin, spring and most of the catchplate are missing. The bow has a narrow head with very small wings, though these seem to be broken and were probably wider. The back of the head is concave where the spring would have fitted. Other examples of this style cane be seen in Hattatt's Visual Catalogue of Ancient Brooches. The brooch is 42.95mm …

It has a raised ridge along the centre and similar ridges on each side. The wings are tubular and have similar raised ridges at each end. The front of the brooch has a shiny grey patina suggesting that the brooch had a white metal coating. The breaks are patinated. The design is similar to but smaller than number 889 on page 299 of Hattatt's Visual catalogue.
