Incomplete cast cu-alloy trumpet brooch dating from the early Roman period, i.e. c. AD75-175. The brooch misses its spring coils, pin and most of the catch plate. The slightly bent bow and the loop which held in place the spring coils are still intact. The brooch's metal surface is very corroded, especially on top, the front and the underside of the bow. Much of the surface, however, remains intact on the head and back of the bow which are decorated with intricate enamelled decoration. Red, white (or light blue) and yellow enamel were used to fill small triangle-, tear- and eye-shaped …

Cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch. A mature example of a trumpet brooch, early 2nd century AD in date. The bow has decoration at its middle consisting of upper and lower units sprouting leaves which enwrap the centre knob from above and below-known as the acanthus. The brooch would have had a chain loop inserted into the axial bar which is now missing. Decoration is applied to the upper and lower mid-bow flanges though this is fairly worn. The underface of the foot knob is recessed which Hattatt explains is to accommodate enamel (1982 page 107), although this is now missing.…

Fragment of a Roman copper alloy brooch probably dating to the 2nd century AD. The brooch comprises the lower part of the bow with part of the catch plate and a moulded foot. It has a brownish patina. There is no sign of any decoration on the bow other than the double grooved, rounded foot moulding. The remains of the catch indicates that it was probably quite broad. These two latter indicators suggest that it may be a fragment of a Headstud type brooch and therefore of the 2nd century AD. Length: 38 mm, Width: 17 mm, Thickness: 10 mm, Weight: 5.17 g

Part of a copper alloy Dragonesque brooch, it consists of a slim neck and zoomorphic face with a stylised eye and nose. It is probably of the East Brigantian type since it has a raised, upwards pointing 'ear'. It is likely that the brooch originally incorporated enamelling although none of this remains; it has a green patina. This fragment probably represents a little less that half of the full brooch. See, Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, Hattat, p152-157. Dating probably from the later part of the 1st century AD. The length is 24mm, the width is 22mm thickness and the weight 2.74g.

Incomplete copper-alloy headstud brooch dating from the late first or second century AD. Only the head and part of the bow survive. The wings are tubular with a central vertical slot allowing the hinged pin to move. The wings are decorated on the outer face with two grooves/steps. Early Roman trumpet brooch dating from c. AD75-175. The brooch is very poor condition and incomplete. Only the bow and the head survive; the foot, spring and pin are missing. All surfaces are very worn and the decoration (if it was intricate to start with) is now smoothed over and without definition. The bow appears plain with the typical moulded stylised reel-and-acanthus-leaves on the apex. The head is trumpet-shaped and would have held the spring coil in a loop below; this is missing now too.
