A fragment of a cast copper alloy trumpet brooch, comprising the incomplete head and part of the bow, of early Roman date (c. AD 75-175). The lower bow, spring and pin are missing. The brooch's head is sub-circular in plan. The bow is curving with a debased acanthus moulding at the mid-point. The rest of the bow has broken off beside the acanthus moulding. A similar brooch was found within the same Parish - see BH-86AC02. The brooch is oval in plan and has a raised central cell (also oval) with a double rim around its perimeter. The cell contains remnants of a green and red glass or enamel inset. Surrounding the cell is a shallow groove, whilst the outer edge of the brooch is marked by a low rim. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman Dragonesque brooch. This type of brooch is essentially Celtic in design but is Roman made and continued to be made until the middle of teh 2nd century AD. They are an entirely British type of brooch (Hattatt; 1982; 152). The brooch has a raised surface and a flat back. Two of the heads remain, there would have been three originally. Both the heads are broken, the hole (which represents the eye) is incomplete on both. The semi-circle central part of the brooch represents the body of the dragon and has a circular perforation.

The surface of the bow is damaged but appears to have been decorated with four longitudinal incised lines, two probably running the length of the bow, and one on either side of the bow extending roughly half way down. The bow tapers to a point. The catchplate is missing. Dimensions: length 26.02mm, width across wings 18.06mm, width at top of bow 8.9mm and thickness 10.95mm. Weight 4.14g.

A 2nd century cast copper alloy disc brooch. The brooch is flat and circular. The surface has largely been lost due to wear and corrosion. The front of the brooch has been decorated with a ring and dot in the centre with lines radiating out from the centre. Copper alloy headstud brooch with a hinge pin (still intact). There is a broken wire headloop above the crossbar; this has been pinched in by a heavy rectangular collar. The collar has the remains of possibly white enamel around three lozenge-shaped bosses. A longitudinal crest is located immediately below the collar and above the headstud which appears as a conical perforation in the bow. Lozenge-shaped blue enamel cells run down the front of the bow, below the headstud. The foot of the brooch is now broken, as is the catchplate.

The crossbar has three sub-rectangular cells to either side of the bow, probably for taking enamel. The bow also has sub-rectangular cells for enamel; these become gradually smaller as they approach the foot of the brooch. The last cell, approximately 25mm above the foot, is in the shape of an inverted spear-head. The foot knob is undecorated. On the reverse of the object, the catchplate is present, but incomplete.

A copper alloy disc brooch with blue and red enamel/glass decoration. The face of the object has a raised outer rim encircling a sunken field of blue enamel or glass. In this field are circle-dot motifs comprised of raised metal rims around a band of red enamel and a central raised, metal boss. At the centre of the face of the brooch is a raised rim surrounding a sunken field of which the colour is now gone. The reverse of the object has two lugs providing the hinge-pivot, both corroded, and the remains of the catchplate, also corroded.

Cast copper alloy disc brooch from the Roman period. The disc is divided into six equal segments by lines extending from the centre. There are twelve peripheral knobs, one at the end of each of the dividing lines and one halfway between each of these.The knobs are worn, some almost entirely. Each segment is enamelled with a circular area left plain. Two opposing segments have been decorated with a pale yellow/white enamel, whilst the remaining four are a dark blue. On the reverse the spring is extant, along with part of the pin. The catchplate has broken, and only a stub remains.

Cast copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth Group 4, flat wing ends type), cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.l. Plate 48. Semicircular, concave cross section wings with a backward facing lug at either end, these lugs have a hole in the centre for the pin support bar which is now missing. On the top of the head would have been a backwards-facing hook this has been truncated from the base. On both sides there is a moulding at the junction between the bow and wings. Cast copper alloy disc brooch, 29mm diameter, 13mm high, 2mm thick, weight 6.48g. Central boss with a very pronounced cast ring and dot in the centre. Below this the sides expand down and outwards in a gentle curve creating a low cone with concave walls, there are three lines of engraved concentric rings at the base of the cone. The edge of the brooch is expanded and has a circular cross-section, there are six small knops on the outside of the edge, one of which is missing. Cast copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5.c, flat wing ends type, Western Group). Semi-circular, concave cross-section wings that have backward facing lug at either end. Both lugs have a hole in the centre for the spring support bar, this is complete and made of copper alloy, the spring is complete and made of eleven curls, the pin is broken near the spring, this is an old break. Cast copper alloy brooch length 39mm, width 11mm, thickness 14mm, weight 7.1g. That artefact has a hinge mechanism, with hollow wings supporting the pin support bar, there is an off centre slot at the back of the wings where the pin fits, the tip of the pin has been truncated by corrosion. The forward edge of the wings has a squared face. On the front of the head is a stud consisting of a ring with a boss in the centre.
