Circular gilded copper alloy disk, probably a brooch. The rim is curved over slightly, the edges are rough but appear complete. Both sides have a raised ring running round the edge near the circumfrence, a central raised pellet and traces of gilding. The raised pellet on one side seems broken from an old break although this may just be corrosion. On the other side (the side where the rim is bent upwards) the pellet seems complete; on this side there is also a curved hook to one side, possibly the catch for a brooch pin now bent flat with the plate. The brooch is 19.2mm in diameter, 1.6…

An incomplete cast copper alloy plate brooch. The brooch is heavily corroded and damaged. It is therefore difficult to say for certain how old this brooch is. It is possibly post-medieval in date but a Roman plate (2nd century) can not be ruled out. The brooch is roughly circular in shape, though heavily corroded and damaged. No decoration can be seen on the front surface. The reverse still houses the double lug and a small square catchplate. It is the widely spaced double lug which puts a question mark over the Roman date, as they were normally closer together in the Roman period…

A cast copper-alloy brooch. The brooch is flat and circular and appears to have been turned. An engraved ring runs around the outside edge of the brooch and a punched dot is located in the centre. The obverse is otherwise undecorated. The reverse has the remains of a catchplate and a pin lug positioned on the outermost extreme of the brooch. The fittings have been arranged transversely. There are some filing marks on the reverse of the brooch. The metal has a dark brownish-green pitted patina. It resembles an 18th century button, but could date from the late 16th – 18th century.

A Post-Medieval silver brooch; consisting of a slightly asymmetrical heart-shaped frame, d-shaped in section and separate pin, sub-rectangular in section. One end of the pin is bent into a loop, used to attach it to one side of the heart, the other terminates in a dull point which extends beyond the opposite side of the heart. The pin is bent just below the point of attachment. A small crown rests above the heart, with either side attached to the apex of the heart's 'lobes'. A small gap exists between the bottom of the crown and the valley between the 'lobes' of the heart. On the reve…

A small, complete, woman's dress clasp, with pin, dating to the late 18th century AD. The outer surface is decorated with a stamped design of raised ovals interspersed with raised ridges, to imitate gems in a setting; the reverse surface is flat and undecorated. The pin is wrapped simply around a break in the raise decorative pattern of the brooch frame, allowing for free movement but fixing the pin in place upon the frame. One of the raised decorative 'settings' is stamped with the silver makers initials 'ER', but no official makers mark is present. Measurements: frame: 20.87 mm l…
