A complete Post Medieval silver annular brooch. The brooch is made up of a slightly convex silver sheet with striated decoration only around the base of the pin. On the back, maker's mark MC. The diameter is 22.5mm, the thickness is 3.1mm and the weight is 2.91g. Without the mark one might be tempted to think this artefact late medieval, but the form of the mark suggests a 16th Century date or later, though the mark is not recorded in Pickford (ed) of Jackson for this century. Gold; finder’s analysis suggests 22 carat. Brooch. Frame of a brooch of oval or rhomboid form. A thin cast moulded front of curvilinear floral design inhalf relief is attached to a flat back-plate, so the body of the brooch is actually hollow. Front and back are crimped together to provide a setting for an oval stone (now lost). The field of the display face has a slightly rough or stippled surface, so as to emphasise the decorative detail which it surrounds. A long strand of gold wires was wound about the central setting, and at least seven wires each terminating in a small pelle…

A copper alloy post-medieval twisted wire brooch. The brooch is oval in shape with twisted wire interlacing to create 5 horizontal lines and one central vertical line. On the back of the brooch, at each end there is some residue remaining. This would suggest that it had a pin mechanism attached. The length of the brooch is 48.7mm and the width is 32.1mm.

Copper alloy brooch with white metal plating. Hollow pressed metal brooch, probably of separate halves joined, with remains of a hinged pin seat and catch plate on the back. The front bears a relief depiction of a water mill with working wheel in a forested setting. The back retains white metal plating. Now bent. The subject was especially favoured by artists of the 19th-century Romantic movement, though the pressed metal construction tends to argue a slightly later date. Suggested date: Post-Medieval to Modern, 1850-1930. Diameter: 29mm, Thickness (clear of fastening): 2.9mm, We…

Copper alloy brooch. Cast brooch in the form of a flower, floret or spray with five narrow leaves or buds springing from a stalk; a central round setting of diameter 4mm is now empty. The flat back retains paired lugs for a hinged pin, and the back of the stalk is grooved where a catch plate has been lost. The apparent respect dimensions to whole units of the metric system may suggest manufacture after 1800, and possibly a continental origin for the piece. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1820-1880. Length: 25.7mm, Width: 25.7mm, Thickness: 2mm. Weight: 3.16gms.
