Copper alloy annular Medieval brooch. It is complete with the pin and frame. The frame is plain and is circular in cross-section. The pin is slightly unusual as it has a central circular boss with a light blue stone set into it. The pin is hooked around the frame and tapers towards the end. The boss appears to have been cast integrally to the pin, except for the reverse which may have been added later. The boss could be stone or glass it was not possible to ascertain at the time. The brooch has an uneven brown/green patina due to corrosion. Some of the original surface has been lost.

Identification by: Jim Halliday. A cast copper alloy medieval annular brooch dating from the 13 - 15th century. It is a heavily corroded, cast copper-alloy brooch with a constriction for the pin. The collared pin is broken off below the collar. The frame is angled in section towards the centre. The design of the frame appears to have been of a snake or similar reptile, of which very little remains legible, but a scale-like pattern can still be seen. There are minute areas of gilding remaining.
