5th-6th century. Copper alloy, cast, saucer brooch. Length=29mm, Width=28mm, Thickness=5mm, Weight=9.4g. Flat disc face with the remains of a raised rim, cast in one piece with six moulded scroll or spiral motifs witihin a border, once gilded - only small remnant left. There is just the base of the lug that once supported the pin and traces of rust from the pin together with a recess where the catch plate once stood. Very badly corroded and with particles of charcoal attached to the face - evidence of burning, possibly from a cremation?
