A clipped and worn Post Medieval silver coin, probably a penny of Elizabeth I (1558-1603 AD). The obverse shows a crowned bust facing left. It does look as if there is possibly a rose behind the head indicating the coin is a three farthings; however, the area is very worn and this observation does not fit with the lack of a date above the royal shield on the reverse. It is more probable therefore that the coin is a penny. The initial mark is also difficult to resolve but in all liklihood it is an escallop; this places the coin in the third coinage period and dates it to 1584-1587 AD.…
