A cast silver element comprising two figures, a female standing nude with one knee raised, a smaller female figure next to her whose bust ends in a shaft. Broken off at the base. The function of this artefact is uncertain, though it is certainly post 16th Century. The metal (which might be base silver) and facture suggest a relatively recent date. Due to it's undiagnostic nature it is therefore my view that this does not represent Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.

The find consists of a rough, cylindrical ingot with rounded ends and hammered surfaces; length, 38.1 mm; width, 12.4 mm; weight 30.58 g. It does not conform to the usual shape of either Roman or Early Medieval ingots and has no distinguishing features. It is therefore undiagnostic and undatable, so does not qualify as Treasure under the stipulated criteria of the Treasure Act. We recommend that the Secretary of State should disclaim the Crown's interest in this find and should be grateful if the Coroner would authorise its return.

Silver ring, possibly a finger ring. The band is wide, undecorated and has an inward facing D-shaped cross section. The fact that the ring has a convex internal surface suggests that it may not be a finger ring. Undiagnostic Description: silver band, probably a fitting, with undecorated surface. The interior of the fitting is convex, indicating that this is indeed a fitting rather than a finger-ring. Undiagnostic hammered silver bar Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of the bar conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content of 70%, the balance being copper with some zinc, tin and lead; it weighs 7.21 grams. The bar is of rectangular section, square ended and with slightly concave sides from hammering the top and bottom faces flat; length: 26 mm; width: 8 mm. There is an irregular depression part way along the centre of one face. The bar shows no diagnostic features and it is not possible to assign it to any particular period…

Object type: CASTING WASTE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete fragment of probable silver casting waste, of uncertain dating, but probably Roman to Medieval (AD 43 to AD 1500). The fragment is sub oval in plan and section. The upper surface is smooth, whereas the lower surface is pitted. It measures 22.76 mm in length, 12.17 mm wide and 7.15 mm thick. It weighs 7.9 g. It is a mid to dark grey / silver colour, with an even surface patina. As the fragment is undiagnostic of date and function, it can not be proved that it is older than 300 years old, and is therefore not classified under the requirements of the Treasure Act 19…

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete silver mount, now worn but possibly originally formed from a coin or token. To one side (possibly the reverse of a coin) a square hole (3.65x3.30mm), presumably for fixing, has been cut into the surface but does not pierce the object all the way through. The 'obverse' of the object has a possible right-facing bust within a wider border between two concentric grooves. Forms of letters are distinguishable in the border (possibly a C_R between 7 and 9 o'clock) but otherwise any legend is lost. The 'reverse' may have depicted a shield or object of similar 'heater iron' sha…

Object type: COIN
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete silver possible coin, of possible Roman dating (AD 43 to AD 410). The possible coin is misshapen, possibly due to having been subjected to a heat source. Both the obverse and reverse are unclear. It is possible to make out the remains of probable letters along one edge, reading [ ]IVS[ ]. Diameter: 13.70 mm Thickness: 1.93 mm Weight: 1.3 g. The identification of this artefact as a coin is only a possibility, due to the shape and thickness. It is possibly a piece of undiagnostic casting waste.

Piece of silver; flat piece of silver, roughly square in plan, two sides cut, two sides original & uneven; surfaces uneven and pitted; the lower surface bears "stretch marks". The two cut edges have the same patina as the rest of the objects, and so were presumably cut in antiquity. Dark grey surface with some areas of light grey-green corrosion, presumably due to the presence of copper in the silver. Thickness uneven c.3mm-5.6mm

Object type: COCKSPUR
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Cambridgeshire

A silver artefact, probably a cockspur, of (currently uncertain) date. The spur is a tapering bulbous cylinder in shape ending in a point. The open end has an edge that is set diagonal to the longitudinal line of the spur. This cockspur weighs 3.27g, has a length of 23.88mm and maximum diameter of 8.19mm. Two small circular holes are present c.1.4mm in from the edge at the open end. These holes have a diameter of 1.4mm and were presumably used to help secure the spur in place while in use, posibly with a leather thong or thread of some other material. At the open end a notch is pre…

Description: Battered strip of thin lightweight white metal, perhaps silver. The original dimensions of the strip must have been c. 26mm x 18mm, but it has been folded roughly in half down the long axis. The fold is not particularly sharp, and it is possible that it was folded over something organic such as cloth or thin leather which has not survived. On each face are two rows of sub-triangular or rectangular punchmarks set transversely and apparently not in neat pairs. The stamp used may have been a square stamp held at an angle. Dimensions: Length 25.27 mm. Width as folded 10.01 …
