Flat hexagonal perforated element, lobes at corners, grooved decoration. Undiagnostic and difficult to date, but facture suggests that it is probably pre 1708. As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete silver mount, now worn but possibly originally formed from a coin or token. To one side (possibly the reverse of a coin) a square hole (3.65x3.30mm), presumably for fixing, has been cut into the surface but does not pierce the object all the way through. The 'obverse' of the object has a possible right-facing bust within a wider border between two concentric grooves. Forms of letters are distinguishable in the border (possibly a C_R between 7 and 9 o'clock) but otherwise any legend is lost. The 'reverse' may have depicted a shield or object of similar 'heater iron' sha…

Two adjoining silver fragments apparently comprising roughly half an annular brooch of possibly Roman date, originally folded together with a fragment of probable pierced and clipped siliqua held inside. Both pieces of brooch are of similar size and have broken across a sharp bend in the frame of the brooch. The reverse is undecorated, though displays scratches presumably made through wear. The cross-section is rectangular in shape, measuring 7.3x1.3mm. When discovered, the two halves were joined but broke upon the discovery of the third fragment. Fragment one: This section is slightl…

Object type: COIN
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete silver coin, possibly ancient although a more recent date cannot be ruled out entirely. Half of the coin is missing due to possibly recent breaks, while both surfaces are illegible, with pitting and bubbling that appear to be as a result of exposure to heat or fire. This coin may be as early as Roman in date, although a much later Post-Medieval date is equally plausible.

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A white metal finger ring. The shape of the finger-ring is distorted, presumably as the result of agricultural activity while it was in the ground. The band of this finger ring has a rectangular cross-section. It is constructed from one length of silver wire which is bent round to form the band and then the ends overlap and curl around the band forming two slip knots. Dimensions: length: 23.21mm; width: 21.21mm; thickness of band: 1.76mm; weight: 2.70g. Discussion: Finger rings of a similar knotted design, but of either round section or strip, have been commonly found in Viking …

Three fragments of silver sheet, presumably from the same larger object, possibly a vessel. Each sheet is decorated in repoussé with animal scenes. The second features two birds with long, straight tail-feathers posed face-to-face and the third sheet has at least one non-descript animal.
