The fragment is heavily fired although now much abraded with many irregular small circular or sub-circular holes (diameter 1.4mm). The fabric is a mid - light grey colour; it is mica rich with rose coloured quartz inclusions. There is not a broken edge to examine the fabric in detail. A direct parallel is not available but the findspot – along with fragments of medieval vessels may suggest a medieval date. Intriguingly it may also hint at pottery production nearby

The main feature of this body sherd is the moulded decoration around the outside. The scene depicts a bull butting left; the forelegs of a second quadruped can be seen immediately above and the hind legs of a third animal (or possibly human arms?) lie to the left of the bull. In addition to the zoomorphic decoration, there is moulded grass along the bottom of the panel and, to the right of the bull, vine-like scroll. A ropework border marks the bottom of the panel and below this is the remnant of a second decorative panel of uncertain form.
The fabric is light pinkish orange in colour and the slip is deep reddish brown.
The sherd measures 64.3mm long, 46.4mm high and 6.9mm thick.
