Record ID: NCL-97D4F2
Object type: PENDANT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flint pendant of possible Prehistoric date, though a more Modern date cannot be ruled out. The pendant is a drop-shaped nodule of flint with a perforation of diameter 4.14mm at the rounded end. The perforation appears to have been drilled through the flint, though some chipping is apparent around the edges of the perforation on one face. One face of the pendant is relatively flat while the other has a vertical medial ridge with faces rising to join it. The flint has only been roughly knapped on this latter face.

A flint retouched flake of Mesolithic or Neolithic date, about 9000 BC - 2200 BC. It is formed on a flake of brown flint and is D shped in plan. The flake has some short, sporadic low-angle removals on the curved left edge and removals at the proximal right side as platform preparation. It is 35.7mm long, 14.8mm wide and 6.7mm thick. 2.71g.

Lithic, waste flint flake of uncertain date (probably late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age: 2500-1500 BC). The dorsal (upper) face has one central prominent arise and the striking platform is clearly evident. On the ventral (lower) face the bulb of percussion is less clearly evident. The flint is of poor quality for knapping due to large irregular inclusions. 51.1g

County: Monmouthshire

Prehistoric flint retouched flake, probably of Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date The flake is complete (with a length of 25.1mm, a width of 21.8mm, a thickness of 6.4mm and a weight of 2.6g). The retouch is neatly worked on a small distal area of one side (9mm long), with an area of utilisation on the proximal part of the same side. Both the retouch and utilisation are on the ventral surface of the flake. The dorsal surface displays evidence of core-preparation abutting the striking platform. The flake is made on grey, unpatinated flint.

County: Essex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A crude, irregular and partly patinated or stained flint implement or core of uncertain form. It is roughly plano-convex in form with the upper surface retaining approximately 85-90% cortex. Several large flakes have been removed from both faces to form an irregular and crude edge at one end. It may perhaps have served as a simple crude core or core tool. The object measures 100.92mm in length, 58.24mm in width, 29.54mm in thickness, and weighs 179.14g. The precise date of this object remains uncertain as does its usage. The staining/patination may indicate a date as early as the Pala…

A cuboid flint nodule. Use if any is uncertain but the nodule could have been used as a hammerstone or some other tool. The nodule may not have been worked by man but the cuboid shape is interesting and possibly suggestive of human alteration rather than natural formation. If the nodule has been worked it is likely to have been chipped or pecked at to remove tiny angular pieces, rather than knapped which results in flakes being removed. If this object has been altered by man it is probably of Prehistoric date. This item needs to be looked at by a lithics specialist. Dimensions: 46.04m…

A miniture flint axehead rejuvinated from a bigger and older Neolithic polished stone axe. The secondary knapping is of cruder quality than the original workmanship. This artefact might have been a child's toy or votive item. Although the original artefact is of Neolithic date it is not currently possible to determine a likely date for the reworking, however this is most likely to have taken place at somepoint during prehistoric periods. Dimensions: weight 56.65g, length 75.03mm, thickness 20.12mm, width, at widest point by cutting edge, is 44.44mm, width at narrowest end, haft end, i…

A rounded flint nodule. Use if any is uncertain but the nodule could have been used as a hammerstone or some other tool. The nodule may not have been worked by man but the surface is covered in small angular depressions very similar to those covering the surface of the object recorded on the PAS database with record number CAM-8CB781 and is slightly more suggestive of having been worked due to it's cuboid shape. If the nodule has been worked it is likely to have been chipped or pecked at to remove tiny angular pieces, rather than knapped which results in flakes being removed. If …

An Upper Palaeolithic flint blade, dating to 150000-10000BC. A dark grey flint secondary blade which has some patination and staining. The blade has a clear bulb of percussion, bulb scarring and rippling on the ventral side and flake removal scars and some remaining cortex on the dorsal side. The blade measures 77.66mm in length, 38.97mm wide, 17.79mm thick and weighs 64.58g. The flints represent the primary waste from the manufacture of artefacts such as scrapers and arrowheads. The cores and flakes are knapped from pebbles and cobbles suggesting the use of local river gravels. Th…
