A complete cast lead spindle whorl of uncertain date. The spindle whorl is plano-convex with a flat base and domed top and a central perforation running through it. Both faces are undecorated. The metal is a mid greyish-brown colour and is worn. The spindle whorl is 27.8mm in diameter, 7.3mm thick and weighs 28.9g. Lead spindle whorls were commonly used from the Iron Age through to the post-medieval period and are difficult to date with any certainty. A copper alloy globular headed pin. Overall the pin is 60mm between the head and the end, but if straightened out would be approx 110mm long. The head is a fairly uniform globe in shape, approx 9mm in diameter, but is slightly flattened on 2 opposing sides to form 2 opposing faces, where the head in 8mm wide. There is no collar on the shaft below the head. The shaft itself is square in section, approx 2.8mm thick. One face has a small groove running along it from 4mm below the head to 2.6mm from the end.
