Object type: INGOT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead alloy ingot - other associated finds of a late medieval/ post medieval date - otherwise date unsure. It is roughly circular and peaks in the middle of one side where it is 63mm thick. At the edges it is c.15-30mm thick. The ingot is flat on the reverse side but broken towards the edges giving it a 'dished' appearance. It measures 234x194mm. There is mud and iron corrosion adhering to the outside surface but where the ingot has recently started flaking at the edges, it is very obviously lead. Weighs 8.5kg (to nearest 0.5kg).

A corner of the complete end is missing (ancient break). The style of the object is Roman, although the shape is perhaps reminiscent of an Anglo Saxon wrist clasp. If a bracelet, it is not of…
