A probable modern copy of a copper alloy Roman radiate of Allectus dating to the period AD 293-96 (Reece Period 14). Reverse inscription: PROVIDENTIA AVG. Reverse image: Providentia standing left, holding a baton and a cornucopiae, globe at foot. Mint unclear - it migh be S P // (ML?) for London, but this type is very rare for London. It is more likely to be S P // (C) for C Mint which is much more common (cf RIC V, pt 2, p. 561, no. 35). 17th or 18th century lead token 20mm in diameter, cast with a design in relief. A crude piercing on either side of centre line may indicate seconday use as a button. Ref.
