Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete (though broken into three parts 12 weeks after discovery, now glued back together again) large hollow-based flint arrowhead. All-over re-touch, off white/cream coloured flint, which appears to be the natural colour rather than patination. The form is relatively straight sided with slight splaying at barbs. The concavity of the hollow base is relatively slight. Lenght 85mm, width 37mm and thickness 9mm. Hollow based arrow heads, although present in the early Bronze Age (circa 2500-1500 BC) contexts are rare in East Anglia. Ay other example as large as this has not …

Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Large bone 'awl' type implement with angled cut across stem and drilled vertical longitudinal perforation (enlarging the natural perforation) at the 'haft' end. The point is made from bovine metatarus- back foot bone. It measures 126mm in length and 43mm in width. There are extensive longitudinal and part diagonal grooving probably resulting from use wear. The tip is rounded and polished. The flat butt end of the bone displaying slight small irregular 'block' with cracking, possibly relating from burning, this is not evident anywhere else. The bone is in good condition and medium…

Object type: RAPIER
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a bronze rapier blade, other fragments of this rapier have been previously found in 2005 and 1992, see MNL 559 and MNL 446, in Suffolk SMR. This fragment is middle Bronze Age in date and measures 93mm in length, 22mm in width. One of the breaks on this fragment may be recent but the other is ancient. There is considerable recent linear scraping along the faces, probably due to agricultural damage, there is also some limited recent damage to the blade edges, though irregular notching appears ancient, possibly resulting from corrosion. The breaks therefore show no e…

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint barbed and tanged arrowhead re-utilising earlier patinated flake tool (probably Mesolithic). Extremely simple unpatinated retouch, very steep and vertical, limited to edges only. End of tip missing, tang is very slight and sub-triangular. 24.64mm in length and 25.73mm in width. Although flint barbed and tanged arrowheads are a diagnostic early Bronze Age type the unusual nature of the edge working (possibly make by pliers?) and the form (particularly triangular) may suggest a more modern creation and working, perhaps by the Brnadon gun-flint knappers of the 19th and ear…
