An incomplete struck/ hammered silver denarius of Caracalla (198-217 AD), dating in 215 AD (14.5mm x 19.5mm; thickness: 0.8mm; weight: 1.65g). Aesculapius is shown on the reverse. He was the god of medicine and healing, shown as a man of mature years, holing a staff about which a serpent twines, and he is often accompanied by a small figure representing Telesphorus, his attendant (Sear, 1981, page 16). The coin is in slight worn and in a good condition. RIC reference: Mattingly & Sydenham, 1936, Volume IV, part I (Pertinax to Geta), page 248, No 251.
