A contemporary copy of a denarius which combines an obverse of Caracalla with a reverse of Septimius Severus dating to the period AD 198 to 217 (Reece period 10). PART MAX P M TR P X COS III P P reverse depicting trophies flanked by seated captives. As Mint of Rome. cf. RIC IV, p. 115, no. 185 for reverse. The coin appears to have been cut at 2 o'clock on the obverse, either as a votive act or to check the metal content.
