A silver denarius of Carausius (AD c. 286-293) (Reece Period 14), ADVE[NTVS AVG], emperor riding left. Mintmark: -//RSR, commonly attributed to London, but to be studied further. RIC V, pt. 2, pp. 508-9, cf. nos. 535/536var. The coin has a heavy verdigris with crude lettering, which is not unusual for the RSR issue, but it might be a contemporary copy. Measures 18mm in diameter, 1.6mm thick and weighs 2.2g. This coin is included in Sam Moorhead's corpus for RIC.

RIC V, pt 2, p. 510, no. 554. The obverse has a cuirass, but not pteryges. This coin is only slightly worn and corroded. It measures 19.4mm diameter, by 2.4mm thick and weighs 4.27g. RIC V, pt. 2cf. no.9. RIC 9 (in the Ashmolean Museum) is almost identical, but has mintmark (M)L - it is just possible that there is no M. The obverse inscription ends 'AVIC' (appearing almost as IIIIIC). Mintmark: -//[ ] - The exergue is off the flan - it could be either blank or have RSR. The coin is a variant of RIC V, p. 509, no. 540, which is -//RSR. It is of slightly crude style and it would be good to test the silver content.
