Probably 98-117AD. Once silver plated, copper alloy core counterfeit Denarius possibly of Trajan. Length 17.8mm, Width 16.6mm, Thickness 2.2mm, Diameter 17.8mm, Weight 2.0g. Obverse: Laureate bust right, illegible. Reverse: Aequitas standing figure left holding a pair of scales and a cornucopiae, (AEQUITAS AVG). Very corroded with just traces of silvering remaining. This interesting little item is suggestive of a denarius of Trajan (AD98–AD117) but it fails in not being in silver. It has the characteristics for that coin with the bust of Trajan facing right on the obverse and Dacian seated facing right on the reverse. It is equal in size to an original and looks to be well formed; however, it is most probably a contemporary fake in an indeterminate base metal that has now long lost its silvered surface. There is a small spur to the rim of the coin which might be indicative of this coin having been 'cast' as opposed to struck, with struck…
