In August 2007, Paul Rennoldson and Thomas Bolam discovered five coins whilst metal-detecting on farmland in the parish of North Dalton. Four of the coins were addenda to the earlier North Dalton Iron Age hoard (2006 T494) and are considered as Treasure separately (see 2007 T600). Roman denarius of Faustina II, dating to the period AD 161 to 175. SAECVLI FELICIT reverse. RIC III, p. 271, no. 711. Note the coin has a copper-alloy surface patina, but a break in the coin reveals it to be solid silver in section. The patina is likely to be a result from the impurity of the silver alloy, in which the resulting chemical reaction after deposition brings the copper to the surface of the object.
