A complete zinc alloy modern copy of a Roman Denarius of Augustus as Emperor (27 BC - 14 AD), possibly CAESARI AVGVSTO reverse type, depicting Quadriga right, ornamental panel surmounted by four miniature galloping horses, dating to the period BC 19 - BC 18 (Reece Period: 1). Mint: Rome, probably.
Diameter: 20.7 mm
Thickness: 3.1 mm
Weight: 3.4 g
XRF Analysis was carried out on this probable denarius on 14th May 2015 at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, and that determined that it had a composition of 93-95% zinc with around 5-6% copper. As this metallic composition is not consistent with a roman date, it is likely to be a fake or replica coin of Modern dating (19th to 20th Centuries AD).

A modern copy of a silver denarius of Elagabalus (AD 218-222) struck at the mint of Rome
Reece Period: 10
Obverse: Laureate crowned draped bust facing left - IMP ANTONINIVS PIVS AVG
Reverse: Liberalitas standing left holding pileus and sceptre in field (right) a star LIBERTAS AVG
RIC Vol IV pt 2 p35 ref: 107b
Note: It is highly likely this coin maybe a modern forgery - the coin is in prestine condition and the external edge of the flan has a raised ridge - this is most probably a modern casting seam. If this is a forgery it is an extremely good one - and one designed to deceive - similar examples are known to eminate from Bulgaria and Eastern Europe
