Eight cast lead weights. Each one is different in form, shape and weight. One is a tall conical standing weight (D.27.77mm, H.41.14mm, W.140.3g). One is a short conical shape with a central hole (D.31.92mm, H.17.62mm, w.70.3g). One is a short slightly waisted cylindrical shape (D.36.65mm, H.25mm, W.25.02g). One is a plain circular disc (D.28.92, H.6.91mm, W.41.6g). One is a circular disc with central perforation with short incisions around the edge on both faces (D.26.82mm, H.4.3mm, W.17.6mm). Three are globular with central perforations (bead-like) (1 = L26.15mm, Width 16.15mm,…

Lead bead of uncertain date
The bead is of biconical form (with a maximum diameter of 9.1mm, a thickness of 3.4mm and weight of 0.8g). The bead has a circular perforation (of 4.7mm diameter). The surface of the bead is heavily corroded but there is the suggestion of radiating lines decorating both faces.
There are few diagnostic attributes to the bead and it is therefore difficult to date.

Object type: CASTING WASTE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A large piece of lead casting waste of unknown date. it is 78.6mm long, 46.6mm wide and weighs 132.58 grams.
The object appears to be in the shape of a partial hand being made of of two side by side tubes with a roughly sub-oval cross section. Two depressions near each of the tips are not disimilar to finger nails. However the opposite side of this object is irregular and shows no sign of moulding similar the breaks do not suggest this was part of a larger more reggular object the object is therefore mostly likely piece of casting waste

A lead spindle whorl. The object is a torus shape being circular in plan with a circular hole in its centre and sub-oval in cross section, almost being bevelled on its outside edge and almost straight sided on its inside edge. The spindle whorl is a light grey colour mostly with a worn smooth surface.
The artefact is 28mm in diameter, 6.5mm thick and has a central hole that is 9mm in diameter. It weighs 26.42 grams.
Simple spindle whorls were in use over a very long period of time, and whilst decorated examples are typically assumed to be of late medieval date (see for examp…

A lead alloy pyramidal standing weight of unknown date, about AD 43 - 1800. The weight has a sub-oval base it sides are more irregular some being curved others flat which taper towards an apex. This flattens into a rectangular profile which has a sub-circular hole piercing it. The base is concave, caused by the lead shrinking as it cooled after casting. There are no obvious marks or decoration.
